What is a running tour?
Imagine if your history teacher and your physical education teacher had a love-child - the result? Sydney in Motion running tours. A running tour is a sightseeing tour where you experience the history of the city at the same time as getting a work-out. Also known as jogging tours or sightrunning, they are a great way to sightsee as well as stay fit while on holidays or business. Running tours cover more ground than a walking tour but still offer access to areas inaccessible on a bike.
What makes Sydney In Motion running tours different?
There are other running tours out there but we are different for 2 reasons:
- History – Although we run, we dont skimp on the history. At Sydney In Motion we are passionate about the historical, architectural and artistic vibe of our city. The tours have been developed by locals with stories that delve deeper into the heart of Sydney than your standard tour. We avoid the well-beaten path of other providers and give you a true local’s experience – let us be the close friend you wish you had in Sydney!
- Accessibility – You do not need to be a serious athlete to participate! We are passionate about running but more passionate about sharing the stories and sites of our city in a new and exciting way. Sydney in Motion running tours are available for ALL levels of fitness, with power-walking and customised options also available. We cater for everyone so don’t miss out on doing something completely different!
What if it rains?
Sydney has one of the loveliest climates in the world with an average of over 240 days of sunshine a year and temperature of 17-24 degrees. Why else do you think we spend all day drinking beer and throwing prawns on barbies? If on the off chance it does rain we will still run.
In the case of extreme weather conditions or major unforeseen circumstances, your safety is our first priority and we may choose to cancel the run. If this occurs we will issue a cancellation notice 2 hours prior to departure. Notice of cancellation will be provided in accordance with the communication details provided at time of booking.
What should I bring?
Nothing that you don’t want to carry! Its best to leave your valuables at the hotel or pehaps bring a small day back if you wish to carry these with you on the run.
How fast do you go? What if I can’t keep up?…Please don’t leave me.
Don’t worry, we will never leave you.
Our running pace will be tailored to the pace of the group. As a guide we run between 5.30 to 8 minutes depending on the makeup of the group. If you do not know your pace there is no need to worry. There will also be rest breaks throughout to give us time to take photos and give you the lowdown on some Sydney sights.
Will we be running the entire time?
Not if you don’t want to. There will be breaks during the run so we can give you our Sydney spiel – especially at the important landmarks which are great for photo opportunities. For those who want to continue their workout, we have ways to keep your pulse racing… Intrigued?
Will you provide water?
There are many public drinking fountains on our route and we will point them out so that you keep hydrated. You are also welcome to run with your own water bottle.
What if I need to use the bathroom?
We pass one bathroom stop during the tour, but we prefer to only use it for emergencies as courtesy to the other runners/power-walkers. There is a bathroom stop near the start and finish of our tour. We highly recommend you use the bathroom before the start of the tour. There are many toilets located nearby, including Town Hall station and the KFC on George Street - please ask for directions if you need them.
What if I want to tip my guide?
Tips are not required but if you loved the tour then feel free to tip the guide. Please no tips about their bad jokes – they have already been warned.
Where is a great restaurant/look out/thing to do in Sydney?
We have prepared a custom Sydney in Motion local guide with all of our favourite restuarants, bars and things to do in Sydney – we will give you a copy at the finish line! Feel free to also ask your guide for any further recommendations. A resource our team loves is Time Out Sydney www.au.timeout.com/sydney/.
What do I do if I don’t have my running gear?
Sydney has some some fantastic running stores with knowledgeable staff. Pop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can put you in touch with one in your area. Alternatively, Rebel Sport is a major Australian retailer which will satisfy most of your running needs. www.rebelsport.com.au. For a much more personalized experience we highly recommend The Running Company who will take the time to know you and your feet. They conduct free gajt analysis. www.therunningcompany.com.au
Can I get a refund?
We will gladly refund 80% of the cost of the tour up to 48 hours prior to the start of the tour. Cancellations within 48 hours prior to the start of the tour will not be issued.
If we cancel the tour in the event of extreme weather conditions or major unforeseen circumstances we will inform you at least 2 hours prior to the start of the tour. You will have the option of rescheduling to an alternative date or a full refund.
Can I change the date of my booking?
We will gladly change the date of a booking up to 48 hours prior to the start of the tour. Changes cannot be made within 48 hours prior to the start of the tour and cancellation fees will be applied.
